2018 has arrived and 2017 has gone forever.

Hopefully, 2018 will be a year of peace, forward looking and stability for everyone.

MAJOR RENOVATION WORKS IN MALACCA COMPLETED

Finally on 20th. December 2017, our Malacca renovation works have been completed.

It has practically took us 9 months to complete this project. Originally, it was supposed to be completed in 2 months.

The main contractor was unable to meet his dateline and the main air well gutter job was not correctly mounted.

Water flowed down the air well gutter until we have to buy a plastic sheeting to prevent water seepage.

We then organise our own Malacca gutter workers to change the gutters.

With at least 4 workers and their boss around, the job was completed in 1 day.

We also installed a new Panasonic 1 HP split aircond in the senior room as well.

A single metal bed, mattress and 2 single mattresses were bought for parents single beds.

Now, the room is livable and ready for occupancy.

Our senior room is now fully aircond and a single bed with mattress purchased.

Gutter in mid section of roof has also been changed as the original gutter was damaged by workers pulling on it in the center.

2018 TO BUY MAIN HALL FURNITURE

After major renovations done in 2017, we hope buy in some classical sitting set of 2 seated chairs, 2 single chairs, coffee table and side table.

Another display cabinet and a low level sideboard (optional) are required.

Hopefully, we can get them in before Chinese New Year on 15th. February 2018.

GUTTER AT MAIN AIRWELL AND REAR ROOF TO BE DONE FROM 20.12.2017f

FInally, we are getting the gutter above our main airwell and the rear roof old gutter changed to all new galvanised semi round gutter.

Hopefully, our water overflowing  from our gutter main airwell will be thing of the past.

At the same time , we will install a new Panasonic 1 hp split aircond in the senior room. A new single bed of 3' x 6' with mattress will be purchased.

The red cushion bed will be relocated back to parents' room where it was in 1970s. The writing table is to be moved to the red cushion bed was located.

A shelf will be carried up to the upstairs meeting area where it will be used to store some books.

Once done, our final phase of our year long renovation is to rearrange the books into shelves or stored in our storage area.

ANOTHER WAY TO UTILISE WIFI ROUTER FOR SECURITY SURVEILLANCE

We have used the wireless router connected to a webcam for remote surveillance system.

The wireless router provides Internet access while the webcam is pointed at the TV monitor that has 10 CCTV cameras placed at different floors of a Commercial building.

Remote viewing of the premises can be done by smart phones from different places.

READY FOR DEPLOYMENT IN MELAKA

After setting up the system here similar to the setup in Malacca and testing the connection to the webcam, Internet access and Intranet digital library, it is now ready for deployment.

TESTING DIGITAL LIBRARY

We are currently testing our digital library by connecting the wireless router to the intranet/Internet router.

As we have a Public and Private network, we can allow the public to access our digital library content.

Besides our digital library content, children can use our XOs to learn computing, simple programming skills.

The Private network only allows authorised personnel to access the digital library and Internet access via our wireless router.

OUR INTRANET/INTERNET MOBILE ROUTER ARRIVES

Our intranet/Internet router has arrived from Hong Kong.

It arrived yesterday but I was out when our postman came to deliver it.

We will collect it this morning.

This router has a USB data stick which allows its content to be accessible via Intranet by typing in the access code.

At least 15 sets of computers and smart phones can use it at any one time.

To test it before deployment.

SENIOR ROOM GETTING DONE

Our senior room is getting done. The shower is ready.

RETENTION POND WORKS ACCORDING TO DESIGN

Our retention pond is working to its function.

Storm water came down after the morning downpour, and after sometime, it flows into the retention pond.

In no time, the retention pond is full and water overflows into the open drain cavity.

ASSEMBLY OF DVR RECORDER UPSTAIRS RESOURCE CENTRE

Yesterday, we started to assemble our DVR recorder for our resource centre.

4 CHANNELS CCTV DVR IS TO BE INSTALLED AS WELL

Besides our WiFi router with a webcam, we may also put in a 4 Channels CCTV DVR.

The DVR has a hard disk to record and playback of videos.

Once we get our eKongHing Digital Resource and Creative Centre going, we may mount our Samsung 48" Smart LED TV in the center.

Contents produced by our creative users can be shown for comments and feedback.

RESOURCE AND CREATIVE CENTRE FOR UPSTAIRS MEETING AREA?

An idea is being mooted to set up a computer and resource centre at the upstairs meeting area.

Our IT web specialist has posted an intranet/Internet wireless router with USB data stick from Hong Kong.

Once installed, it can be accessed by at least 15 users at one time.

Users can use our XO laptop computers for access to our digital content via intranet within our resource space or by smartphones.

Under privileged pupils from nearby schools and tadika can register at this centre to learn computing skills, language skills, maths, drawing and other skills.

We want to target children from 4 - 6 years old and 7 - 12 years old.

For safety and to monitor the resource space, a webcam will be mounted in the premises.

MAIN HALL BEING REDECORATED

Our main hall is being redecorated.

MAKING UPSTAIRS FRONT MEETING ROOM AND FRONT ROOM PRIVATE

We also installed a 2 panel sliding door for upstairs front area.

By doing so, we made the meeting and front room areas private.

People can come up from the front stairs and proceed to the rear of the house and vice versa.

PUTTING IN SENIOR ROOM SHOWER DOOR

Today, we installed an aluminum door for our senior room shower door.

The door can be locked from the inside of the room so that unauthorized persons cannot access from the outside via the shower.

DECORATING UP VERTICAL GARDEN

We have started to transform our main hall wall into a vertical Garden.

PU FOAM TO SEAL AND INSULATE WATER LEAKS FROM CEILING

Next week, we hope to seal up water leaks from a room ceiling.

We are using Polyurethane (PU) foam which can be applied from a canister.
